Master blaster

The Master Blaster, who was ruled out of the first seven matches because of a groin injury, said he was now clear about the teams his side had to beat to ensure a semi-final berth."There were some teams which started off well but fell off a bit midway, and there are others who started badly and then have done well. It's all a question of momentum. We now know who are in contention for the semis. Those are the teams we have to beat," he said.Tendulkar added that Mumbai would do well not to concentrate on just the Chennai skipper MS Dhoni, but on other players too."There will be challenges. It's not only about Dhoni. There are other batsmen too. Badrinath has made some runs. And there are others like Albie Morkel. We don't take anyone lightly."Tendulkar, who opted out of the Twenty20 World Cup last year, said he was enjoying playing the format."I have played Twenty20 games last year and thoroughly enjoyed them. I will just have to go out there with other senior players and get into the group. I am prepared for all the challenges. That is the reason I stayed with the team over the last three weeks,"he said.

He said the final playing XI will be decided hours before the start of the match and there was not going to be much changes in the lineup

Moyes puts faith in Toffees trinity

The Goodison Park boss witnessed his side beat Portsmouth 3-1 on Sunday to knock Liverpool out of fourth spot, Ayegbeni Yakubu (2) and Tim Cahill finding the net while the late arrival of substitute Andrew Johnson turned the game Everton's way.

Moyes, who insists his side "are getting better and better" as their season reaches its climax, said: "It is good for us that we have so many match-winners on the pitch.

He continued: "Yakubu and Cahill are excellent, and can win matches on their own. While Johnson, who had been ill all week, came off the bench to change the match.

"He gave us a different dimension out there, and I told the lads afterwards that it was not always the players who start the games who will be the match-winners.

"Sometimes you can be sitting in the stand one week, and winning the game the next. I particularly refer to Johnson, who is coming into really outstanding form."

But Moyes still thinks Liverpool are the favourites to clinch fourth place.

He said: "Liverpool are still the favourites, they have to be. We have been consistent but for them fourth would be expected. We are doing everything we can to make a fight of it, but the bookies are probably right to make them favourites.

"They are looking at the two clubs and where they have been in the past and they are making their decision on who are the favourites in the light of that.

ausie lose the final match

Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist's 83 on his final one-day international performance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground was not enough for Australia as they lost by 13 runs to Sri Lanka.

With Australia and India already qualified for the finals of the Commonwealth Bank Series and the match a dead rubber, the attention turned to Gilchrist who did not disappoint as he smashed his runs off 50 balls. But a middle-order collapse meant Ricky Ponting's men could only reach 208 in reply to Sri Lanka's 221, which was led by half centuries from Mahela Jayawardene and Tillakaratne Dilshan. With Gilchrist at his frenetic best it seemed Australia were certain to head into Sunday's first final on the back of a win.The wicketkeeper was utterly dominant and reached 50 off just 35 balls. He hammered 11 fours and two sixes as he dominated an opening partnership of 107 with James Hopes.Indeed, when Hopes was bowled by Muttiah Muralitharan, he had contributed just 28.And that was the beginning of the end for Australia, who lost five wickets for just eight runs.It took an excellent catch to remove Gilchrist, with Lasith Malinga holding the ball on the slide to give Nuwan Kulasekara his first wicket.
